The Board for Waste Management Facility Operators is a separate agency within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. The board is authorized to license waste management facility operators and to promulgate regulations and standards for the training and licensure of such operators. Code of Virginia, Title 54.1, Chapter 22.1. Solid waste management facilities are required to be operated under the direct supervision of a waste management facility operator licensed by the board. Code of Virginia, Title 10.1, Chapter 14, Article 2.
