AGENCY SUMMARY

The Real Estate Appraiser Board is a separate agency within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. The director of the department acts as the board's secretary and administrative officer. Code of Virginia, Title 54.1, Chapter 3. The board is authorized to license and certify real estate appraisers. It may prescribe a code of ethics and standards for licensed residential real estate appraisers, certified residential real estate appraisers and certified general real estate appraisers. The board is authorized to adopt regulations that satisfy the minimum criteria of the federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 such that federal regulatory agencies recognize and accept licenses issued by the board.
