The board is authorized to license optometrists, to establish standards for licensure and governing practice, and to approve courses of continuing education required for annual license renewal. It is authorized to promulgate regulations regarding the certification of optometrists to administer diagnostic pharmaceutical agents for the purpose of examining the human eye and to certify qualified optometrists to prescribe certain therapeutic pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of certain diseases and abnormal conditions of the human eye and its adnexa.
