AGENCY SUMMARY

The Charitable Gaming Board promulgates and maintains regulations concerning charitable gaming activities in the Commonwealth. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (agency) is tasked with the duties and responsibilities associated with administering these regulations in order to promote the integrity of such gaming activities throughout Virginia.

The agency issues permits to organizations wishing to conduct charitable gaming, charitable gaming suppliers, manufacturers of electronic pull-tab systems, and network bingo providers and registers bingo callers and bingo managers. The agency provides training and technical assistance to organizations and individuals involved in charitable gaming. The agency conducts audits and financial reviews of organizations to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements, applicable laws and regulations, and use-of-proceeds requirements. The agency conducts financial reviews of charitable gaming suppliers and manufacturers of electronic pull-tab systems to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The agency conducts onsite inspections of charitable gaming locations, investigates violations of gaming laws and regulations, and pursues regulatory action or prosecution of violators.
